THE FLOAT WITH A DIFFERENCE |    100 YEARS ?

St. Don Bosco’s prophetic vision in 1862

One of the float entries this year comes from the Legion Of Mary who are a ‘lay’ organisation, with no paid staff and whose members are giving service to the Church on a voluntary basis in almost every country in the world.

The float itself which will be decorated in flowers and contain a figure of Our Lady of Fatima and will be in the form of a boat, as a direct interpretation of St. Don Bosco’s (pictured below) prophetic vision in 1862 of the future Church.

The boat represents the Catholic Church on earth and the Holy Father as head of the Church stands at the helm leading it through turbulent waters. With the help and guidance of two pillars, he manages to bring his people, the flagship and auxiliary vessels, safely to port amidst storms and attacks from all sides. The first pillar has the Eucharist at its summit while the other pillar has Our Lady.

We intend to show the 3 strands of Catholic faith woven together in the context of Don Boscos’ vision. Namely -

ADORATION (represented in the vision by the pillar of the Eucharist)

DIVINE MERCY (representing the saving grace of the Church and coming to port)

LEGION OF MARY (represented by the pillar of Our Lady and her intercession)

The vision of Don Bosco see it here is about Divine Mercy really. The Legionary hopes to attract people who have stopped practising to return to their faith once they realise just how beneficial and therefore desirable it is to be associated with Jesus and His Church.
